Searching Old English Sheepdog Breeders To Find Your Dog

By John Brown

People search for a loving, loyal dog when they decide to add one to their family. The Old English Sheepdog Breeders are one place to look, as these dogs are one of the most loving dogs around. These breeders specialize in this type dog, and have pedigrees you can be proud of. Though not the only way to find this dog, it is a good one, even if a little pricey.

An alternate way to get your dog is through a rescue. This dog has significant grooming, and it is very big. Many people expect a smaller dog when they get that little puppy, but it soon gets too big for them. It has a great personality, loyal and loving, but it does require frequent grooming, more than some people are willing to do, so they give it to a rescue shelter.

These dogs are very loving and very loyal, and are often attributed to herding a child to stay in an area that is appropriate. This gave them the descriptive name, "Nanny, " early on. But, as with any dog, they should not be left unattended with a child. There is no way of telling what might happen, say if the child were to hit it or get too rough.

This dog is very large, and has high maintenance needs. They need special grooming and lots of exercise. They do not bark much, so are good in apartment living, though a small apartment might crowd them. All these things should be considered before deciding on this breed, whether you are buying a new dog or getting one from a rescue.

The dogs have several beneficial traits. They are good at herding, agility tasks, and obedience trials. They are also good at search and rescue exercises. They are super active and need to be kept busy. If they are left for a long time without having something to engage them, they will often get into mischief and be somewhat destructive.

The Old English Sheepdog has a double coat, thick and soft. He has a very muscular build covered by that thick coat. He has big, strong bones and a large rump. He stands about twenty inches or so. His head is very large and square, giving room for lots of brain power. He is very intelligent and must be kept occupied. He has brown or blue eyes, and sometimes one of each color.

The dog has a shuffling bear walk due to its size, but is very nimble. They keep their bodies in shape with regular, directed exercise. They are great house dogs, watchful, kind, and very intelligent. They are very good with children, patient and protective. With a loud ringing bark, they make excellent watch dogs, but do not bark to excess.

If you plan to get a rescue dog, it is important to understand what condition he may be in. He is wonderful, loving and loyal. However, many people who get this dog are surprised by its large size and its significant grooming needs. They often are so tangled that sores form on their skin. Many times they have to be completely shaved. There often is fecal matter and urine embedded in their fur, as well as a flea infestation.
