Huge Gains From Used Pallet Racks

By Raymond Olson

In many industries where warehousing and storage is of great importance, and establishing a storage system is essential. Storage costs can sometimes become a big challenge especially for businesses dealing with non-perishable commodities. To cut down on storage costs, a viable option would be to introduce a pallet racking system. While installing a new racking system may attract a considerably high cost, you can install used pallet racks. While installing old pallets attracts a lower cost, it is on the side easy and fast.

Pallets can be made from metal, plastic and wood, and then put in a racking system that has shelves at different levels. Forklifts are usually essential in this storage system as they simplify the loading work. Especially for racking systems in large warehouses several feet high, forklifts become essential equipment that significantly simplifies the loading tasks.

Different types of racking systems are available. First is the selective system that is commonly found in many storage facilities. With this system, it is possible to access the pallets from the aisles. This system is popular because it merges other types such as standard, deep reaching, and aisle system. Due to the narrow aisles in this system, one need to use narrow specialized lift trucks that can move in the aisles.

Another type of racking system is drive-in and drive-through racking system. These structures are appropriate for high-density storage since they are fabricated from steel. They also have space that allows a forklift to go into the bay of the structure. The drive-in structures have one entry or exit while drive-through structures have an entry on both sides. The difference in the entryway significantly influences the storage of material. For instance, materials in the drive-in system are loaded using last-in-first-out mechanism. This makes drive-in system appropriate for non-perishable items. On the other hand, the drive-through system uses a first in and first out mechanism.

Another type of racking system is a push back system. This system is ideal for bulky products due to their ability to store items that can fill several pallets deep and a number of levels high. This system operates such that the loaded pallets move the next one backward to lie on the rails. On the other hand, once offloaded they are pushed to the front in the structure. This system is ideal for large storage.

There huge benefits offered by the racking systems. A key benefit is that you are able to save storage space. Businesses dealing with logistics and delivery can utilize the saved space to put more items. Efficiency is also improved in the stacking arrangements since the valuable space in the floor is avoided.

Safety is another key benefit of this storage system. The high-quality items need to be stored on safe structures. Pallets provide maximum safety, reliability and strength adding safety and security in the storage structure. As a result individuals and inventory in the warehouse remains safe and secure.

Pallets and racks are also cost efficient and relatively cheap, making them highly affordable. Even by implementing a used racking system, you can still get huge benefits that by far outweighs any damage or time lost as a result of lacking an efficient storage system.
