Sherwood Valves Are Known The World Over

By Beryl Dalton

Quality must be imperative in everything you do or buy. One company that has been around for many years and guarantees that their products are of the highest standards are Sherwood Valves. They have the very latest in robotic machine tools as well as cell technology. All of their equipment is in tip top condition and is inspected regularly.

There are so many different types of valves and each has a specific purpose as to what they are used for. The ball valve has a round disc and is very hard-wearing. They will shut off any flow even after many years of use. They are mainly used in industrial applications and sustain pressure of up to one thousand bar and temperatures of five hundred degrees Celsius. They are one of the easiest to repair and to operate.

The butterfly valve has a closing device that looks very much like a disc. They are used for quick shut off and are much lower in cost compared to the other larger valves. They are much lighter which means less support needed to hold them up. It is only a metal disc that is fixed to a rod and it does quarter turns when shutting off or opening the flow.

The 6411 Series is made especially for gases that will destroy or damage other substances and ensures that the membrane seal is leak proof. The brass and aluminium silicon bronze valve guarantees that it will hold up against even the most brutal working conditions. It is still very easy to operate and quick to refill. This product comes in brass and stainless steel as well as aluminium and silicon bronze.

The main part of the typical valve is the bonnet and body. The body is the out casing and surrounds the inside parts. The bonnet is the part of the pipe which the stem passes through and is a guide and seal. The bonnet also acts as a cover and is partly permanently screwed into the body. When getting made the internal parts are put into the body and the bonnet is later attached keeping everything in its proper place.

The Diving regulator is used for scuba diving and it reduces pressurized gas to ambient pressure. The gas is stored in a cylinder that is attached to the back of the diver via a hose. It can have more than one valve which helps to control the pressure being delivered. A demand valve is also used and is held in the mouth by a mouthpiece.

The 1032 series is made particularly for liquefied gases that are used in fridges. This type of gas is combustible and is perfect for the use of propane and butane. The brass body is very resilient and has two non perforated stainless steel diaphragms. It is coil loaded for safety reasons and the links all comply with CGA V-1 specifications.

The valves are all made to regulations and standards and each one has a certain code that is maintained. If there is no code attached there are even tighter controls added. All specialized gas products used in the medical industry are thoroughly cleaned and assembled in a very controlled and clean environment.
